OESO Esophageal Motility and Reflux Trainee Forum

The OESO Esophageal Motility and Reflux Trainee Forum is an educational program for gastroenterology and surgical trainees interested in a career in benign esophageal diseases.  The forum will be held in conjunction with the 17th OESO World Conference, with up to 20 promising trainees selected from around the world. 
 
Application is currently open with rolling acceptance until June 5, 2026 or when all positions are filled, whichever is earlier.
 
 
Overall goals of the program: 
  1. To provide education & exposure in esophageal motility/reflux testing and patient management.
  2. To allow a unique opportunity to engage with world renowned key opinion leaders for mentorship and career development discussions.
  3. To promote networking with other trainees from diverse backgrounds/regions to develop a camaraderie of early-career colleagues.  

 
Structure: The program will include two main required components: 
  1. The Motility Course and the Esophageal Function Testing Interpretation Workshop at the start of the OESO Congress on June 14, 2026 (Sunday)
  2. An exclusive lunch symposium on June 15, 2026 (Monday) with senior international leaders of the field for networking, mentorship, and career development discussions.  This symposium will be comprised of a combination of presentations focusing on career development, panel discussion, and networking time.
 
Awardees: Up to 20 gastroenterology or surgical trainees will be selected through a competitive application process to receive a travel award of up to € 500 to participate in the OESO Esophageal Motility and Reflux Trainee Forum and the 17th OESO World Conference.
 
Eligibility: All currently enrolled trainees (students, residents, fellows) interested in esophageal diseases. Trainees who graduate/complete training at any time in 2026 remain eligible to apply, including those finishing between January-June 2026.
 
Application submission materials: (1) Curriculum vitae, (2) a statement of 500 words or less on the reason for interest in the field, long-term career goals, and how participation in the program may help achieve those goals, and (3) a brief letter to verify status as a trainee (which can be obtained from the applicant’s faculty mentor, training director, department, or institution on official letterhead).

Learning Objectives: 
  1. To understand the key concepts, technologies, and performance of esophageal function testing  with dedicated didactic teaching.
  2. To learn and practice the core concepts of interpreting and analyzing esophageal and reflux monitoring studies through an expert-led interactive experience.
  3. To strengthen the knowledge and skills needed to properly diagnose and manage patients with reflux and motility disorders.
  4. To receive guidance on early career development, mentorship and opportunities for networking with leaders in the field.
